I believe in soul mates. Yes, I do. But I get your point about abrasion being needed to sort of polish and advance the soul. I think we're given two choices in life: to take the easy way or to take the hard way, and I think some people -- a lot of people, in fact -- choose the hard way.

I mean, they pick people who are bound to hurt them. Maybe they're not aware of it at the time, but ... well, I think that deep down they really are. But they go ahead with a person who just isn't the wrong choice, but really a bad choice, anyway. Maybe it's because they have low self-esteem, or the person's poor behavior is familiar. I don't know, but I see it happening all the time.

I think we can attract our soul mates (and yes, I'm using the plural cause I don't think Mother Nature would've created us with only one) by the way we feel about ourselves and how we treat others. If you feel good about yourself, feel confident about being yourself, then you're bound to attract only people who are confident with that self.

Anyway, that's my two cents.

Some people do. I'm not sure that I'm one of them. Oh, sure, I agree that we all have psychological and spiritual counterparts, folks with whom we meld on some deep level. But I'm not comfortable with the idea that there's only one Mr. Right or Miss Right for each one of us. I'm not sure it's even part of the universal plan (if I can speak of that), for us to meet someone with whom we're so perfectly paired. After all, part of the way our souls are polished is through abrasion. We can't have abrasion when the connection is too smooth. What does everyone else think?
